On May 27th 1941 the German battleship the Bismarck was sunk after a relentless three day hunt by ships of the Royal Navy. Earlier the Bismarck had managed to sink the HMS Hood. The Bismarck was the pride of Germanys fleet and its loss was a big blow to German morale. Aircraft from the Ak Royal slowed the Bismrack as the British fleet closed in, finally sinking the great ship
